Boxing Official Nick Marsh of Youngstown Passes Away at 81
    @ December 28, 2011 7:12 pm

On December 23rd, 2011, the local boxing community mourned the loss of Nick Marsh.  Nick passed away after a long bout with cancer at 81 years old.  Nick was an active boxing official with both the Lake Erie Boxing Association and the Ohio State Athletic Commission.  Nick had a real passion for the sport of boxing and rarely missed a board meeting or a bout.  I think Nick will be best remembered for his enthusiasm with which he lived life.  He took great pride in staying extremely active in his late age and had a knack for motivating others to do the same.  Nick was an active supporter in the local boxing community and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

    Prenice Brewer is Back!
    @ November 11, 2011 8:50 pm

Last night, Cleveland’s Prenice Brewer handed Emmanuel Taylor (14-0) his first loss in his hometown of Washington DC.  Prenice’s last fight was August 6th, 2010 when he suffered a 3rd-round TKO loss (his only loss) to Patrick Lopez on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights.  He admittedly was not in this best physical and mental shape at the time as he was dealing with personal issues outside of the ring.

After some soul-searching and a considerable layoff from the sport,  he is back with a vengeance.  With the support of his life-long trainer, Renard Safo, he has re-dedicated himself to the sport of boxing.  Renard Safo explained the fight with Emmanuel Taylor as being “big risk, big reward,” referring to threat Taylor posed.  After a fifteen-month layoff, most would expect Prenice to take an easy tune-up fight to jump-start his career, instead he chose to travel to Washington DC to take a fight with undefeated Emmanuel Taylor in his own backyard.  Brewer reportedly boxed brilliant and did not show any signs of fatigue throughout the eight-round affair and dictated the pace of the fight from bell-to-bell.  He walked away with a split-decision victory (scorecards read: 77-75 Brewer, 78-74 Brewer, 75-77 Taylor) in front of private crowd of elite members of congress and other government agencies.

Below is a YouTube clip by “King Justin Boxing” highlighting the start of Brewer’s comeback.
